| The barn is in the NE Dordogne (Perigord Vert), between the large towns of Thiviers and St.Yrieix La Perche. It is a stone building typical of the area which has been converted over a number of years. A major feature is the full length balcony facing SW which takes full advantage of the impressive views and benefits from the full beauty of summer evening sunsets.
The nearest village is Jumilhac le Grand, which has a full complement of shops and bars and boasts and impressive XVI Century castle overlooking the valley of the River Isle.
The property is located in the small hamlet of Artis and is about 45 minutes by car from the historic towns of Limoges and Perigeux. The area is rich in historic links with the UK , most notably due to the time spent here by Richard the Lionheart. The "Route Richard Coeur de Lion" passes through Jumilhac le Grand and on to other local towns where he stayed, fought and died.
Besides swimming and table tennis facilities at the barn it is possible to play tennis or go rock climbing (Jumilhac), go horse riding (several places within 5km) and take part in fishing or golf. Jumilhac is sited on a gold mine and for variety you can pan for gold in the River Isle. |

| This building has been converted with families in mind and offers a large amount of open space with plenty of sleeping space. The method of conversion also means that in addition to standard bedroom area there is ample additional sleeping space in two large galleries which can easily accommodate a further 2 people each. One of the bedrooms is separated into a self contained flat ( not available separately) which is ideal for guests or for use as a "Granny flat".
Ground floor
Wooden doors opening onto a central storage area, doorway to right leads to further storage, woodpile and
washing machine. Door to the left opens into separate workshop and toolroom containing gardening equipment
and bicycles.

First Floor
Left door on landing leads to self contained flat comprising:
Bedroom 1 chest of drawers, wardrobe, double bed and side tables.
Living area/kitchenette comprising sink,cooker and worksurface. Door opening onto balcony
and to barbecue.
Shower room, toilet and washbasin.
Door straight ahead on landing leads to main accommodation comprising:
Large open plan lounge area constructed to take advantage of the large original beams used to
build the barn and featuring exposed stone work throughout. A particular feature is the main
lounge area which utilises the entire height of the building from first floor level almost to the roof
apex. A large woodburning stove provides heating of the main area when needed.
The main living area includes a dining space complete with large dining table and two extension
leaves. The space overlooks the main full height window over the entrance doors.
A kitchen with fridge freezer, cooker sink and cupboards and worksurfaces is included within
the open area.
The first floor accommodation is completed by :
Bedroom 2: Double bed, half height wardrobe and chest of drawers.
Bedroom 3: Double bed, chest of drawers and wardrobe.
Bathroom: Bath, shower, sink and cupboards,WC
Upstairs from dining area to first floor,comprising:
Sleeping gallery with one two single or one double bed.
Bedroom 4: Two single beds, cupboard, chest of drawers
Bedroom 5: Two single beds, cupboard, small wardrobe
Washroom: Comprising sink, cupboard and WC.
The property is surrounded by a stone chip parking area and features a private above ground pool 28ft x 12 ft
which is available for use throughout the summer. Loungers, chairs and tables for outdoor eating are stored in the
main building.
A particular feature of the holiday is eating from the barbecue which is at one end of the balcony. |
